Where did my metabolism go?

When I was younger, my raging metabolism made it easy to down a full pepperoni pizza and a liter of Mountain Dew without so much as a second thought or an ounce gained. Fast forward a couple of decades and not only has that metabolism completely died out, but life has gotten significantly more complicated. Between kids, marriage, and a demanding job, it can be difficult to find the time or energy to prioritize health and fitness. And let’s face it: that pizza still looks delicious.

My journey toward a healthier, happier, and more fulfilled life began in July of 2022. Looking in the mirror, it was hard to identify with the person staring back at me. Not only was there a ginormous beer gut where my once flat stomach used to reside, but the light in my eyes had been replaced by a saddened and wearisome look. I didn’t like what I saw. At that moment, I decided that it was time for a change.

A new beginning

This blog was created for all the people that have found themselves at a similar crossroads and are looking for help in making the transition to a healthier lifestyle. Fitness at 40-something requires experimentation, dedication, and patience–none of which are easy. It’s harder for us to change our habits, results don’t come easily, and our bodies can take a long time to adapt. Couple that with our mountain of obligations, and it’s hard to find advice that actually works.

My goal is to help you create a realistic plan for achieving and sustaining your health goals by sharing all the things that have (and haven’t) worked for me. Over the past 6 months, I’ve been able to completely transform my overall health and fitness, losing over 25 pounds in the process. I’ll always be a work-in-progress, but it’s a lot easier to smile back at the mirror these days.
